Business Arising

Embankment - Detailed quote received from Mikes Landscapes (Ralph Graham organised this).  Stage 1 $9,650 (includes plants) Stage 2 $14,220 Stage 3 $21,880.

G McVeity - Yates Garden Care - Drainage $985 Retaining $1,170 Oval - Unable to quote.  Aussie Yards quote previously received: - Stage 1 $8,850 Stage 2 $12,500 Stage 3 $25,000.  Decided that a discussion group will be formed to look at all quotes and compare, headed by Robert Ramsay & Tim McDonald.

Air-conditioning -   Kathy Dixon advised that we have hired Wayne Spicer to do the electrical upgrade (he is a service provider for Energy Aust).  Energy Aust must do their work first.  Energy Aust do not have the electricity to give us at the moment.  They have allocated this to the local houses.  They are monitoring usage at the moment.  There will be two poles, one near the front path entrance and the other probably near the garden at the rear of the office.  Scott McGoogan (a parent from school) has given us a very good price for the air conditioners and will be installing them.  Because of this, we should now be able to install five air conditioners using, the $23,000 (includes electrical upgrade).  If we purchase all nine air conditioners now we can save $150 off each, saving $1,350.

Treasurer's Report

Written report circulated.  Grahame Woods spoke to same.  Cheque sent to Federation re Insurance $750.00.  We have also received a grant cheque from Hornsby Council for $986.00 re the mosaic restoration.  Kim Meyer applied for the grant for the mosaic, which is the Year 6 gift to the school.  It was resolved that the report, payments and receipts be accepted.  Moved by Bill Harris    Seconded by Rebecca Colwill.

Grahame discussed funds available to spend.  We started the year with $32,000.  We have $10,000 left to be spent from P&C School Project.   If we allocate $10,000 to Stage 1 Embankment and total cost of A/C is now $32,000(excludes GST - school will pay and we will reimburse less GST) we have enough funds to do both of these now.  Tim McDonald proposed that we allocate the extra $9,000 now ($15,000 was allocated to finish the A/C by Sept 2004) to receive the discount of $1,350.00.  All in favour.  The Air conditioners are Fujitsu 3.5hp.  Many thanks to Scott McGoogan for this.  Also many thanks to Kathy Dixon & Melissa Iredell for all their hard work in arranging this.

PRINCIPALS REPORT

Mrs Julie Hanley - Debating finishes tomorrow.  Thank you to coaches Phil Meyer and Geoff Casson and also to Cameron Osborne for organising the debates.  Next Thursday is Education Week Open Day.  There will be Drama, Choir, Band, Displays in Computer Room, Hall and classrooms.  Thank you to all helpers in fundraising.  The School Self Evaluation Committee has had its third meeting.  A third of the school community has received the Culture survey.  Richard Botta will collate the results.  Curriculum area being evaluated is Creative Arts.  Julie feels that this is an area of development needed in our School.  Would like to include Creative arts next year.  Music would be part of C.A.  It is very difficult to include this without losing any subjects already used at relief from face to face teaching (i.e. Japanese, Technology and Library).  A request was made for increased funding from the P&C, so that the school could provide a Music Teacher.  Technology time would need to be reduced.  Would also like to look into a Dance Teacher but this would be on a user pay system of approx $20 per term per child.  Funds required for the Music Teacher would be approximately $10,000, but if computer is reduced slightly some offsets of money from this would go towards music.  An increase in the yearly contribution by $5,000 to the School, from the P&C should cover this.  This year the P&C gave the School $15,000.00.  P&C exec will keep this in mind when looking at next financial year's budget.  Will also look at increasing the voluntary contributions by the indexed amount allowed.
