PRINCIPALS REPORT
" I'm looking forward to working with the new P&C Executive
and the rest of the parent community. I am sure 2005 will be another
successful year for the Epping Heights school community.
" Year has begun smoothly - we have formed 13 classes including
2 composite classes.
" We have welcomed 2 new teachers this year - Mrs Stevens teaching
5S and Ms Smith teaching 1/2S. We have welcomed back Miss Fazzolari.
" Very successful Swimming Carnival held at Dence Park - great
levels of participation.
" ASRs were sent home to families last week - I would encourage
all parents to read the report. It outlines some of our achievements
last year and our targets for this year.
" Management Plan - I went through this with the new Hills
District School Education Director, Ms Janet Wasson, today. I will
send a copy to the P&C when it has been endorsed. The document
is very detailed and outlines the plans for each of the teaching/leaning
areas.
" Renovation of recycling shed - approval was given at the
end of last year - project can go ahead very soon.
" We are beginning small renovation in print room to allow
for extra work-station and phone line for electronic banking i.e.
credit card facility for payment of term invoice.
" New payment system for term invoice was extremely efficient
and successful, with payments from almost every family in the school.
Parents are to be thanked for their prompt response which benefits
the office staff considerably.
" New desks/chairs for Technology Centre have been ordered
- delivery is expected mid March - we may need some assistance in
unbolting computers and removing desks and chairs ready for new
desks. We may also need some help with the reinstallation of the
computers. The supplier will give us a week's notice prior to delivery.
" Leaders attended Leadership Camp last week. There will be
a lunch for the leaders this week.
" Parent/Teacher sessions will be held on Thursday - teachers
will give an overview of Program Achieve.
" We now have a Speech Therapist working in the school. This
allows students to have their session during school hours. Teachers
also benefit from liaising with the speech therapist and obtaining
advice.
" Very successful first event for the Multicultural committee

efforts

6th. I will inform parents at the information evening and begin
the process of collecting names on the roster. I am happy to remain
as a co-ordinator of this to see it executed & assess its' merit.
Multicultural -
In recognition of Lunar New Year, one of our mums, Mira Kim, demonstrated
how many Korean children celebrate their New Year at Friday's K-2
assembly. The staffs at EHPS were treated to the children performing
a traditional bow. Staff then gave the children a present of a special
rice cake. It is a day that Korean children often fly kites. We
had a lovely time helping them construct and decorate tiny kites
that they flew after the assembly. It was fairly obvious that the
children had a terrific time. Thank-you! to the staff and parents
for showing support and enthusiasm for the event and particularly
the staff for allowing parents some class time to make the kites
with the children. Parents assisting were Jane Song, Heather Butler,
Angela Ng, Kathleen Ryu, Karen Leung, Geraldine Scott, Rudy Herman,
Julia Chin and special thanks to Hannah Chin, Maude Iredell, Mrs
Hanley and Mira for dressing in traditional dress and adding a royal
flavour to the day! Photos on display near the office.
Next on our agenda is to consult with the families via a letter
asking them to choose something culturally special to them to share
with the children at school. After we receive their input we will
decide on the logistics of how best to share these items with the
children at Epping Heights.
Safety House - Correspondence from Debbie Pollard, Youth Liaison
Officer at Eastwood Police. Seven families are no longer in the
program, but there are three new families (they are being checked
at the moment).
