Eureka!
History in Brief
In 1987 a new band called Common Ground did their first job
in a country pub... The name only lasted one gig and Eureka!
was born.

In 1988 Australia celebrated it's bi-centennial year and "bush
bands" became very much in vogue with Eureka! in demand
for Bush Dances and Australiana events. |

While
many bands played their interpretation of "traditional" rural
folk music, referred to these days as "Bush" music, a few bands
took the music to a more dynamic level. Bands were not only
influenced by this Australian bush music but also drew from
a wider sphere of international Celtic music and the contemporary rock influence
of bands like Fairport Convention.
Eureka!
was one of these bands and the music evolved from those
beginnings. The widely travelled "Bushwackers"
from Australia, who occasioanlly reform for some special gigs oralso played a brand of Aussie "folk rock fusion"
Thailand
In 1988 Eureka! did a stint in Bangkok at the Shang-ri-la
Hotel for a major Australian promotion. An interesting
foray for the band and a chance for Ralph to catch up with
a country he'd come to know and love some years before.
Guam, USA
For
a decade Eureka! has gigged in Sydney and around Australia
and the 90's saw the band off overseas again to play in Guam
USA. Here the band took in the sights in the Micronesian Islands,
wrote a song or two and had a crack at scuba diving.
Featued
at festivals, promotions, concerts, corporate and private
functions, Eureka! continued to evolve and produced two
albums, Red Dust in the
City and Jammin'
with Gypsy, a special project featuring fiddler
Dave Swarbrick from the UK.
